Brother Jack M. Howell

 -1972-

A master's job is never done, it lives on through the ages.

Brother Howell served as Worshipful Master in 1972 and a second term in 1987 as Master of Center Lodge #465.

He has served as Worthy Patron of Concordia Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in 1979, 1985, and 1997. He is a 32nd Degree York Rite Mason and hold the distinguished title of "Knight of the York Cross of Honor."

Brother Howell is also a member of the Tehran Shrine Temple and was President of the Past Master's Unit. He was president of the High Twelve Club #10, Fresno, in 1995 and has also served all of the youth groups in one form or fashion.

For ten years his attendance at Clovis Lodge was 100%- an effort worth imitation by all of our members.

Installation was held on December 18, 1971 and Clovis Bethel 147 Jobs Daughters entertained with several vocal selections. Refreshments were served in the dining hall after the ceremony. It is noted that this Installation was being held three weeks earlier than the ones in previous years.

In the stated meeting of January it was decided to order materials to remodel the northeast corner of the Lodge room. It has made a nice alcove for the piano and organ for years.

On March 3rd, at a first degree, Bro. John Polson remarked that 50 years ago to the date he was made a Master Mason.

In April it was decided by motion and vote to spend $323.21 on the tables downstairs in the dining room. New linoleum was put on the tables and a new coat of paint. Also the Jobs Daughters reported by letter that they had laundered and pressed all of our aprons and that the $30.00 be donated to the building fund. On May 4th it was Past Masters night and Bro. John Polson Pm of Clovis Lodge received his 50 year pin. Brother Polson gave some of the highlights of his distinguished Masonic career.

In June PM John Rider read a communication from the Grand Lodge reminding the brethren of their obligation to Masonic widow's and orphan's. By motion and vote it was decided to implement some sort of plan taking care of said widow's and orphan's.

In July Bro's Gottfried Fredrick Fischer and Dale Emory Glenn received their 50 year pins. The Secretary read the Tyler's register for the evening they both got their third degrees.

In the stated meeting of August the brethren were called to refreshment for the purpose of presenting a $400.00 scholarship check from the California Scholarship Foundation to Miss Deborah Moeller. The check was presented by WM Howell in very impressive ceremonies.

In October the new sound equipment was installed in the Lodge room and was enjoyed by all who previously had trouble hearing. In November a fund raiser for the building fund was announced. It was selling brass name plates on the seats in the Lodge room.

The annual Roll Call dinner was held on December 7th and Bro. Gerald A. Sharer PM of Clovis Lodge and the recently appointed Grand Senior Steward of the Grand Lodge of California was escorted in with Grand Honors. The following brethren were lost to death in this year: Bro's Fred Elner McPherson, Granville Decalve Edwards, Richard Henry Rose, Ray Chrismer, Chester Ray Reyburn, and Archie Bradshaw.

Brother Howell is still a member of Clovis Lodge and is retired. He enjoys his hobbies of photography and computers. Brother Howell has taken several sets of pictures of the Installations at Clovis Lodge.
